Fla probably does deserve some type of recognition or plaque for face eating competitions tho.

yeah, I would have to disagree with this article too. I grew up here, and think it a fine place to raise kids. And I am raising one here myself.

If it said, Southeast FL is the worst place to raise kids.... I wouldn't have much of a reaction.... I might even tend to agree. But FL in general (overall)... No, I disagree. i wouldnt have any issue if it were say, bottom 10 or 15 either. I could probably see that. But the worst, no.

Multiple surveys over the years have established fl school quality to be at the national average.

Personally, I'd put it below average. Mainly due to the transient nature, the schools being... Ok but not great, crime stats, high number of sex offenders, etc. Some areas are great, some not so much. But overall, I'd put it in the bottom half, maybe around the 30-35 mark (1 Being the best, 50 being the worst). I think that's about right.

The methodology was as follows:

"We focused on metrics that would affect a child's quality of life including water quality, air quality, inter-generational mobility and access to schools with high graduation rates and high rates of proficiency in math and reading," the website states.

The study also considered child and infant mortality rates, child poverty rates, median home values and the percentage of children without health insurance.

All of the topics highlighted are fairly significant issues in much of the state so it's not as far-fetched if one looks at it rationally and minus prejudice.

All of the "Best places" are comprised of small (somewhat obscure) communities in the same North-Central area. This certainly leads one to wonder about the objectivity or bias of the report and its inferred claims of national representation.

Silly. We are Arizona natives and after living in Destin for many years we've decided this is a far better place to raise our kids, which is why we've left all of our family across the country to stay here.

I actually moved back to Florida because out of the places I've lived (moved 9 times) I thought Florida is the best place to raise a family (granted I don't plan to have kids now, but wanting to setup long term roots somewhere).
