I think maybe Tampa? Has not had a direct hit there but has been on the fringes to some. Same for Jacksonville area for the most part.

Tampa, and the last REAL storm moving on shore from the gulf was in 1921. I don't count storms coming from the east coast or little storms with 70mph winds or less.

OMG, lucky? I count us lucky to have survived Andrew as it virtually destroyed our house while we were in it and that was the easy part. And after that was two years of rebuilding and all the hassles around that. We had anything that was not nailed down or taken elsewhere when we could find storage for what was left after the storm stolen by looters who roamed our neighborhoods looking for opportunities. Dealing with crooked contractors, county red tape and bureaucrats, shortages of building supplies and decent workers, and insurance companies. The list goes on.

I knew of two people who were killed during Andrew, one a little girl in my daughter's dance class who was killed when flying debris came through her bedroom window, the other a guy who bought the farm when his roof collapsed. There were people in my neighborhood who were seriously injured-inside their houses, cut badly by flying glass as their windows broke ( like us, when debris went right through their shutters), or were hurt trying to hold double doors shut against the winds.

Consider yourself lucky that you have never had to go through such an experience, you cannot imagine how bad it is or you would never wish for such a thing.

It was so bad for us ( and many others who have been in the path of severe storms) that for a long time I thought that in the event we ever faced a repeat of what we went through with Andrew, I would head down to the beach as the storm came in, stand there with my arms outstretched, and yell, "MAKE IT QUICK!!!!".

Well, maybe a Cat 5 hurricane with your name on it will find its way to Tampa one day. Then you can have the time of your life and revel in the aftermath too. Tell you what, better you than me.
