Is DeBary, FL a good place to live? I care about quality of life, good schools, low crime and good place to raise a family. What are your thoughts?

If you can afford it I would recommend going a little bit south to Lake Mary/Heathrow. Low crime, lots of shopping and dining, closer to Orlando's big city amenities. Not sure about the school system as I don't have kids. I would imagine with the money being in Lake Mary the schools would be better than Debary.

Schools are better in Lake Mary like Knight suggested.

I'd also add parts of Sanford to the list which is right below Debary on the map.

For a more rural setting in the southern Volusia county area I'd add Osteen. Far enough out but still close to Orlando metro when needed.

It would depend upon where in Debary. The newer areas have some very nice neighborhoods (Debary Country Club, Abbey Woods, Springview, Parkview and Saxon Woods for example) but some of the older ones can be a bit rundown and sketchy in terms of residents. There are some nice older areas, generally the area east of 17-92 and south of Highbanks.

Sanford over DeBary? You've got to be joking. DeBary's per capita income is almost double of Sanford's. And many parts of Sanford are ghetto with high crime and full of homeless people.

Don't be so quick to knock Sanford. West Sanford is one of the most affluent areas in Metro Orlando, and I doubt that DeBary has ANYTHING close to it.

Clearly you haven't been to Sanford given your "alternative facts". The western half is fairly identical to Lake Mary and in sections further west similar to Heathrow. The historic districts downtown are also quite desirable. The "ghetto sections" of Sanford are fairly small, more or less self contained and where the vast majority of crime occurs (like most cities). Full of homeless people? I have never heard where a couple of dozen visible equated to 60,000...

Attached are the demographics provided for leasing information at Seminole Towne Center Mall in Sanford. Check out the 5 mile radius demographics of which anywhere from half to 2/3 would encompass Sanford if drawing a circle around the mall property and extending 5 miles. Yep...80K average household income, Debary is at 53K.
