I googled and found this. I think this law is unconstitutional because it allows discrimination based on age.

What about if we say a neighborhood can only sell to white residents as long as the neighborhood is 80% white (plug in any race)? That would also be wrong, just like the current law regarding over 55 is wrong.

This practice is down right unconstitutional. And the "old-timers" outnumber the young timers like myself. There isn't a thing special about old people and they shouldn't be able to discriminate against younger buyers in their neighborhoods.
Complain to your Congressman.

Honestly, you young folks are a PITA.

You don't keep your homes nice, you leave your kids bikes out on the drive-way, you raise delinquent kids who steal and disrespect others, you don't pay your bills and vacate your home in a minute's notice leaving your bank with unpaid mortgages, you don't pay your HOAs leaving the rest of the community to absorb the bill, you like to have loud cars, motorcycles and boom boxes and are inconsiderate to your neighbors, you park your cars on your front lawn.

To be blunt: we don't want "your kind" around here.

Bahaha. Your words make me think of all the old white people who would still prefer to ban black people from their neighborhoods. "We don't want your kind here!"

Guess what old man river. AGE DISCRIMINATION IS AGAINST THE CONSTITUTION. A court case is coming and all of the fossil-only communities in The US will be ruled illegal. Bite me.

Age is not one of the protected classes under the Fair Housing Act so, while it may seem like illegal discrimination, it is, in fact, legal discrimination. However, suppose the law were to change. What do you suppose would happen? My guess is that the lower prices of the 55+ communities will take on the same normalized market forces that affect the market at large. In other words, the prices won't stay low....they will go up to reflect the rest of the market values. It will be a useless effort...except that it will boost the net worth of the current owners.

although the 55+ home prices seem low, many don't reflect the huge monthly fees (HOA).....some as high or higher than what people pay for rent or a mortgage.....

Bahaha. Oh my god. If you were my neighbor I would terrorize you.

I brought up this topic with a lot of people today. Most haven't given it much thought, but the consensus is that old people only communities are in violation of the constitution. A court case is coming old man, and those cheap only old people communities will be brought down under constitutional law.

I don't think you will find 55+ communities unconstitutional. My sister and her husband lived in Georgetown Texas a 55+ community and are moving out.

Do you really want a bunch of grannies chasing your young hiney? The senior meat market is not pretty and is sparse of men. And those grannies have nothing better to do with their time.

Don't care as long as there is an affordable home for a family to live in.

I REALLY hope these old people only communities aren't being built with Working people's tax dollars. If they are than this is going to be an issue I won't stop talking about.

The change you want will not occur if 55 plus communities were changed. The prices would go up. Affordable housing is a function of your income. Make more or buy less. That is it. The problems are not the over 55 it is the laws passed that have hurt business, driven out many manufacturing jobs and allowed corporations to hire foreign workers at a lower cost than us workers and make things in low cost countries and sell here at a greater profit.

Who voted for the politicians passing such laws? Check the States suffering from this type of business decline.

Note: not the States GDP, rather the average wage and COL.
