You will enjoy St Augustine. Gorgeous beaches with great parking--just park on the beach. Historic Spanish fort and village square that is a bit like the French Quarter--although more touristy I feel. The city is the oldest in the US.

We just got back from St Pete too. It's definitely a busy area. Two days ago the wind and temps kept many people off the beach and we drove to Honeymoon park near Dunedin and watched the surfers. We visited Fort DeSoto yesterday & the weather was nicer & it wasn't too crowded. I agree with you about the accidents. There were slow downs on the interstate and highways each time we headed out. My husband thought that commuting would be just as bad if not worse than South Florida.

I grew up in Panama City and we used to head out to Pensacola to experience the big city life--better shopping in particular.

Enjoy your travels & Happy New Year!

about 40 yrs ago my folks had a chance to buy a small house on ana maria island and my dad nixed it because he thought the taxes were too high at 500 a year and I hate to think what they are now and would appreciate knowing what they are now , just curious . but if they had bought it I would have taken it and moved there after retiring . I still get mad thinking about what an opportunity my folks passed on .... but enjoy your florida time .
