Are there towns that are calmer and community minded geared towards people 50 y/o plus
near the west coast shoreline?
Looking for safe place, walkability to town, grocery, shopping, community center for classes, and beach.

Does any town stand out?

Communities around Port Charlotte Beach Park....visited there once and there seemed to be a lot of what you describe except the walkable grocery store.

Some might say Gulfport (near St Pete) and Dunedin. Gulfport is too close to dangerous parts of St Pete for me though...

Venice. You can walk from downtown to the beach. Small town with a community feel (especially on the island part). Most of the population there is older, retirees. But charming and mostly safe.

Welcome to the official Website of City of Venice, FL

I would also recommend Dunedin.

Just north of Dunedin are smaller towns of Ozona and Crystal Beach, where it is actually legal to drive golf carts on city streets.

Imagine Mayberry among the mangroves. The Pinellas bike trail runs thru it all.
