Default What cost do you pay for health insurance per month and is it single or family plan?

I've heard health insurance in Florida is expensive just as it is in general , but a friend of mine told me he pays $480 per month with the job he has for family coverage is this consistent for Florida rates? I pay $202 per month here in NJ. Just wondering thanks for your time...

Yup. $580 for family plan on BCBS with a $2500 deductible through an employer. Annual premium has gone up consistently the last 2 years by at least $70 a month.

We had to take the higher deductible (up from $1500 the year before) to save from increasing the premium last year, BUT....the employer gave everyone a medical debit card to equal the amount of the deductible which was great. I've never heard of an employer willing to pay for the deductible for you.

I have Tricare for Military retirees and pay about $500.00 per year. Any surgeries will be $20.00, Doc visits if we have a copay is $12.00 and off-base pharmacy $3.00 per medication.

The company that I work for provide over $5,500 for medical insurance for the employees. Some friends that are taking the company medical insurance are paying about $500.00 per month and way higher deductibles.

My wife works for a bank and because she does not take their medical insurance , they provide free dental and eye insurance for the family.

Is your employer providing any monetary aid to purchase insurance?

BCBS and I think its $140 per month (single). I havent checked lately but I've had this plan for 3 years and I think it was about $120/mo. back then. I know its gone up several times since then. I'd have to check my stubs....

Interesting subject because I was just wondering about health insurance, too. Actually, I had posted under general moving issues earlier today.

Insurance is high all over. Family insurance through my employer up here runs about 700 per month for the employee's portion. Should things accidentally work out for us and we end up moving, we'll probably be looking at taking Cobra with us and that will be 900 per month. (We each have a separate plan through out own employer.)

Prettygirl, I was wondering about your BCBS. Are you quite young and have no health problems since it's so reasonable?

My husband and I are self-employed and we pay $956 a month for ourselves and 2 kids. It's with Humana. It's our biggest monthly bill, but now that we're in our 40's we feel we have to have it.

I think her $140 a month for a single person is about right. I used to pay just about $100 a month just for myself through my employer but that was 4 years ago too. Once you add on a spouse or child with BCBS the rates drastically go up. In our case, the family plan is just that no matter how many kids you have on the plan. you can have 1 kid or 5 kids on the plan and it's still the same premium under the "family plan".

Whoa- family plans are expensive! It sounds naive but I never understood the healthcare issue until now. Im in my 20's and Im single (no ongoing health issues). I think now I understand why some of my married co-workers opt to have their own plans and then have their spouses sign up for the family plans through their jobs...
