Default Melbourne, FL

Recently seen several good posts on Melbourne, FL. I don't know a thing about this town so I'm wondering what it's like. Is there a job market there or would someone living there need to commute to another city for work? I'm currently looking through past posts, but wondering if anyone can offer some general info about the area. Thanks!

I see a lot of nice homes in Melbourne from $280,000 - $500,000. I live in Palm Bay and work north in Melbourne and Rockledge. A house in my neighborhood that cost $280,000 would cost around $350,000 in Melbourne. Homes are expensive in Vierra and taxes are property taxes are higher. There are nice places in Palm bay that are expensive too. The Turkey Creek area in Palm Bay is close to Harris Corp. and Rt. 1. I like being closer to I-95. There are houses around me selling for $250,000 . For that price you get : All block construction, 3 bed , 2 bath, 2 car garage, 0.25 acres, city water & sewer, built within the past 7 years.

I know more people who drive to Melbourne to work rather than live there and drive elsewhere to work.

My parents live in Melbourne and absolutely love it. We have lived all over the country, and that is where they wanted to retire to.

I've been reading some contrasting posts about Melbourne. I've read that it is more "city" than other places, like Vero Beach - on the other hand, I've read that there are no jobs there. Can someone clarify. Also, would anyone offer a general description/overview of the area. Is there lots to do in Melbourne and the surrounding area as far as entertainment, dining, shopping, etc., most important is the job market. Thanks!

There are jobs here in Melbourne. Unemployment in this area is around 4%. Depends on your job skills of course, but Melbourne is home to a number of high-tech companies. We have coast on the Atlantic Ocean and Indian River and are 45 mins from Disney. We have our own international airport. Homes? Depends on what you're looking for. Melbourne is not a city in the same way that Orlando, Jacksonville, Tampa etc are cities. For homes I would suggest checking out the Brevard County MLS. The local paper is FLorida Today and they have an online edition.

My Dad and stepmother have lived in Melbourne for a number of years and love it. However, I talked to him during the holiday weekend. It seems that his condo association is in an uproar. They've been dropped by their normal insurance company and taken over by Citizen's!

He said that half of the condos in his complex are now up for sale.

They visited me in August and none of this was going on.

Geez, now even he's complaining!
