Looking for recommendations for family/kid-friendly beach resorts within Florida. I can Google 'til I'm blue in the face but am looking for more personal experiences and why, exactly, you would recommend the particular resort. Not looking for anything Disney related as we currently live in NE FL and have visited them a number of times. More of a beach resort that may have activities for the kids, a place where Mom and Dad can drop them off for a few hours, with multiple pools and things to do in the immediate area. TIA.

One 6 year old with a TON of energy. Sitting idle on a beach just won't do.

Check out Cheeca Lodge and Spa in Islamorada. It's a terrific experience for adults and kids.

South Seas Plantation on Captiva. Our boys enjoyed the kids' club activities there. I think availability of the programs depends on the month you go though.

I know you said not Disney, but have you considered Disney's Vero Beach? It's probably got some activities for kids, it is a beach resort (right on the water in Vero) and you are close to other attractions around Indian River, St. Lucie, and Martin Counties. Even a day trip to West Palm Beach's zoo or other activities there.

I second Captiva. We also did Tween Waters. Both resorts are fantastic

Have you been there? Would like to hear a first person account of it.
