MA or NH. DH is from north of Boston on the NH border. We have been in Orlando 3 and 1/2 years and it will never feel like home. My parents are here and they want to get out too. We will still vacation at Disney/Universal. We love Food and Wine and Halloween Horror Nights We went to the beach more in MA! I think we have been 2 times here-it is hell driving on the roads. We went every month in MA/NH.

I'd be curious how many people are leaving Florida to go back to where they origianlly came from though because it seems after reading some of these posts that those who have only lived in FL (or have lived here many many years) are the ones coming back but those who moved here from another state are the ones wanting to go back where they came from and not come back to FL.

I agree with you 100%. It's a learning process. I thought I was back in heaven up north when it was in the 60's and 70's, no humidity... THEN CAME WINTER. Nice for Christmas, but annoying after.

I also made less money up there, $3.55 less per hour.

Florida is by far not perfect, I can see a lot of changes here in the last 5 years, things have gone downhill, and guess what? it's like that all over the U.S.(we can thank the government for our crapola economy) it's not great in Mass. either, but I am comfortable here. I can overlook the bad to see the good.

We are moving back for many reasons. We made much more money up north and have struggled to find good work down here. As we have been searching for good work in Florida, we have been getting great job offers back north. We were able to have a lot more and vacation a lot more when we were up north. We could go away several times in the winter months so it broke up the cold stretch. Benefits were much better there.

The heat/humidity/sun is awful here in the summer. We have many friends here as well as my parents. No one ever wants to go out in the summer! They all stay cooped up.

We miss the public transportation-we lived on the train line into Boston. I am from NYC and took the subway all growing up. I think this will be very important when oil keeps rising. There is no good public transportation in Florida. I hate to drive here. People are nuts.

I miss the culture in Boston/NY. We drove to NY about once a month. Canada is close. So is CT, PA, DC, MD. We have tried the opera here, concerts, the museums. Sad. The Bob Carr is a joke. The Tiffany museum in Winter Park and the Festival of Trees in November at OMA are worth going to. That is about it. Looking forward to the Norman Rockwell exhibit at OMA though!

We moved down to Florida due to homes being very expensive up north. Then they skyrocketed here. Pay here does not match that. Now, homes have been dropping everywhere including up north. Many smaller, older homes are coming on the market as people get older and retire. It was all new McMansions when we left. We wanted a small home and could not find one. Now we have pages on Realtor.com to choose from in our price range. Houses here are made very fast and with crap materials. I want an older home with older wood and details. The new wood and particle board construction do not cut it

We wanted to work for Disney and have found out working for a big company is not for us. It has been interesting to say the least We liked vacationing at Disney much more than working there.

MA is home to DH. It also felt like home right away to me when I moved from NY. Never felt that here. We love hiking, snow shoeing, mountain biking-can't do that here We thought we would be at the beach several times a month here. We have been twice. We LOVE the beach and snorkeling, swiming, etc.. We work too much here and don't want to drive 1 and 1/2 hours (traffic) to get there. We lived 20 minutes from the beach in MA and went even when it was winter to walk around. We vacationed in Mexico, Caribbean, cruising, etc.. much more because we had $$$$$$. We can't afford to live near the beach here due to insurance and we moved to central Florida due to the hurricanes and Disney (work.)

We have run into more shady people here than anywhere I have lived before! Florida is full of pedefiles, theives, shady politics, desperate people, transients, illegials-it has always been a very transient state. Up north we had the same neighbors for many years. It was very family oriented. Great schools, safe neighborhoods. The crime here is out of hand. I feel safer in NY.

We miss it a lot. We liked a lot of things about Florida and will still vacation here a lot. I still love Disney We made many wonderful friends. I do not regret our years here. You have to do what is right for you.

We'll be leaving sometime next year to PA. We have terrible allergy problems since we've been here, bugs, high cost of ins. & housing & my husbands long 2 hr ride one way to work on US 19. We also miss the change of seasons. Let's face it, it's only snowed a couple of times in NY(we're originally from there) & PA & I want my children to experience the things I did when I was growing up on L.I.. Like pumpkin picking, jumping in raked leaves & of course, snow.

My better half and I both grew up in Florida, and are just plain tired of the hot and humid almost year round weather. There are other reasons, but our main reason is the weather we want to live in a place that has year round outdoor activities. For us Florida isn't a year round activity place more like a 4 month outdoor activity. With the exception of the last years which only had like 2 months of outdoor activity time for us.

We haven't decide where to move to yet. Coastal California (is almost perfect, but the costs are holding us back), Denver, Portland (maybe still not sure about the gloom), Charleston, Atlanta (these two may still be to warm), or Hampton Roads area in Virginia. Hopefully we can decide soon.
