DO YOU KNOW ANYONE WHO IS LOSING OR HAS LOST THEIR JOB RECENTLY IN FL? I HAVE FAMILY DOWN THERE AND WHAT THEY ARE TELLING ME IS SCARY. STARTING TO SOUND LIKE THE REAL ESTATE BUST OF 1925.

It is scary! I work on Longboat Key, which is a totally different world, but off the island, it's reality shock...the pickings are slim...things should be different in the Ft. Lauderdale/Miami area, but on the West Coast, business are closing every day...

Your family is not exaggerating...it is bad, very bad in our area (Sarasota County).
You know the economy is bad when a large employer seeks the assistance of the local police department on the day when they let go of more employees.

Default Family

My brother-in-law works in IT in Port St. Lucie and he's hearing of layoffs at his job. This company, which will remain unnamed, would seem to be in a recession proof industry. He inquired if the job situation is any better here in PA. I was sorry to tell him it wasn't. Even though it isn't as bad.....you can feel the recession train steaming across country. Some people may believe I made this thread to poke fun at FL., not so......I have a son and other family in FL. and i'm concerned.....

my husband is an officer transfering back to SWFL and had to be a dispatcher (instead of an officer) because they're pretty much putting a hiring freeze on the PD'S so we'll take what we can get.. The market is great for us cause we're first time home buyers but it stinks for people who own trying to sell

I hope your husband has some seniority on the police force. Police forces in our area have been contemplating and actually laying off people.

We have our own business which is not recession proof and we are concerned beyond words. We know a lot of people who have been laid off - it is scary and I mean that in every sense of the word. I have not seen anything quite like this.

Do not come to south Florida unless you have a job and six months in reserves.

Palm Beach Post 2008 Sunday Edition - Job section is as thick as the Comic section, Sports section is thicker

It's bad and only getting worse, I know people that can't find work period. People are desperate, 150 applicants for an $8/hr receptionist job.
