Another factor was the wage scale being alot lower than where I'm at. To move to "SUN & FUN" would cost a dramatic pay cut and a mortgage twice what I"ve got now. The hoi insurance would be up to 5x higher. I'll stay where I'm at and maybe visit once in a while. Eventually things will have to change for the better, but for now it's not in sight.

Stay in MO, your cost of living is far lower and you earn more. I am leaving Florida(was born here!) so I can live a better life elsewhere like Oil city. Florida pays in sunshine and the wages suck, house prices are out of reach if you arent wealthy. We middle class have been priced right out.

Well Castro is decrepit right now and many Cubans in Miami keep staging protests with him in chains in a coffin. Many say that with his brother Raul at the helm now, things will change and there's some hope about his willingness to open the doors to US talks. Personally, and this is only my limited opinion on the subject... When Castro dies, Raul is just a figurehead and there are many, many, official groups that are "studying" how to rebuild Cuba immediately. The worse part I see is how do you re educate and mainstream all the younger Cubans on the island now who are used to stealing from Peter to buy from Paul because they have to somehow survive. You know they say necessity is the mother of invention and believe me, the newer cubans are creative. Limited TV, limited toys, limited food, limited shelter, limited electricity, limited water. EVERYTHING is scarce so....you do what you have to do. This is where I see the biggest problem.

It terrifies me...of what might happen to S. Fl when the old fa.. dies. Will there be reverse migration? or will more be sneaking in? I truly hope a real thought out plan is in place by our wonderful politicians for the "what if's..." Who knows, if these manipulators are staging something for their benefit -he might be gone already for all we know (which has been nothing in all these decades). We might be seeing old footage on t.v. like they show Osama on Fox and CNN from time to time- these guys are masters with the media. They are capable of probably embalming him and putting him up on a balcony with a stiff hand and a stick waving bye to the masses - like a puppet.
And now Chavez...again. Will Cuba become a colony of Venezuela?? Truly scary.

I can only hope, wish and pray that Venezuelans have learned something from Cuba. That re-election was fixed - obviously because it is not possible that people will actually WANT Chavez. But then again, this other guy from Bolivia......I can see how some of the majority of folks in these really poor countries could believe all the socialist promises but Venezuela??? Geez Russia went capitalist, the Berlin wall came down, China is becoming next big power....what are some folks thinking????

Wow! A board where everyone shows their true colors. Thank you all for letting us know who you are and what you are all about.

Read the other states. Even in Alaska they're posting that it's not the same anymore.

Gee whiz...I have no idea. But all I can say is that that type of mentality brings nothing. Yeah, in theory it's all beautiful blah, blah..everyone sharing, food on everyone's table and of course everyone would love to see a perfect world, I'd sure love it, who wouldn't? But you know...we are all mammals that happen to be called humans. Humans need incentives to progress or they won't go on forward - they stagnate and rot. This is reality on the human mental makeup.
I just wish I could make these innocent people understand & see that if they fall for those lies, they won't get ahead & will end up worse eventually. It's like those illegal pyramid schemes...where the top guys get the loot and the ones below them become victims. Unfortunately, the power to get ahead is up to us and thru old fashioned invidiual hard work - there is no free ride anywhere on the planet. It' like the ole' saying goes..."if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably isn't" & that's the only truth besides death & taxes, of course.

And no...I don't think Venezuelans over there have learned anything. Unfortunately, they are still in baby shoes in this commie pyramid sheme game. Some people that have 'lesser than' their neighbors want everyone to be like them - they cannot stand the idea of someone being better off then them (forget even food in the beginning, that will come w/their own doing's) or even having better clothes or even a car than them - it boils them inside. For instance, I have friends that have tons more than I do...do I envy them? No of course not, I admire them. But these minds don't think the same. The basic emotion that rules their lives is "envy". Unfortunately, most of the world envies the U.S....and any president or dictator that speaks bad of the U.S. gets applauses from the masses...if people only knew what they set up themselves up for.
I have spoke to many venezulan's that have visited from there and all I get is "ohhh...how can you compare? It's not the same.."and they dismiss my comment w/a wave of their hands, like I'm nuts & I don't know what I'm talking about. Ha, living here amongst Cubans...seeing, hearing, witnessing stuff and they have more experience than S. Floridian's? Wow, makes a whole lot of sense...sigh...though, it's going to kick them in the you know where.

Yeah...and the other Bolivian, a native Indian American hungry for power and engulfing innocent fellow native American's, just because he happens to look like them... they have no idea of anything, the poor souls. And our guys in the middle east a world away... If this keeps up and so close by, I don't know how it's not going to literally affect us. Any politican out there??? Please wake up and smell the coffee, pretty please!!! We're drowning ...and not from tropical hurricanes!

I really think they need to regulate the amount of people they allow to live here :/
Sounds like misplaced blame. If the beaches are looking bad, then they're not being tended to. That is a municipal responsibility. If open land is being turned into homes and businesses, then it's the relevant county's responsibility for managing growth and permits. You don't come across as mean, just ill informed.

If it wasn't for high property taxes chasing us out some of us could hold on to our undeveloped property and keep the natural surroundings. The government is the source of all problems in my view.

Default Adopt Cherokee County Newest Policy

Cherokee just passed a law prohibiting renting to illegals and making English the official language. We should have more leadership like this for South Florida.

Exactly! We can't choose where to live when we are born and raised. But it's lovely that as adults we can make the choice of where want to go!
