Hey there,

I am moving to Riverview, FL from the NJ/NY/PA area.I was just wondering what sort of town Riverview was considered? Rural, developing, etc? It's close enough to Tampa for my business needs, but what should I expect in the way of local attitude? BTW, why do the traffic lights in FL suck? I sat at one for 6+ minutes, lol!

Thanks for any advice,

MrNJ

Riverview has both developed and rural areas. Best to rent first to get a feel of the area before you buy.

might post this in the Tampa Forum since its a suburb that area - it's a suburb w/ absolutely no sense of development - ugly as hell, if you ask me, strip mall after strip mall - stop lights and very poor planning - but that describes a lot of FL nowadays

While I do not like the long wait I have found that it actually helps the flow of traffic. Normally once the light goes green you go through just about every light after that with no problem, even with heavy traffic. Better than most other States in heavy traffic areas. One long wait beat a dozen short waits and constant stopping.

Sorry about the post placement, I was stupidly looking for a Hillsborough County subforum, my bad.

Oooookay, so I guess it looks like I'll be hanging out in Tampa a lot more then, lol. Happy I'm just renting for now.

The good thing about Riverview is that it isn't far from Tampa and there are a lot of things to do in TB/STP. Entertainment, sports, etc. If you're living here temporarily, you'll find that there are a ton of transplants from Jersey/NY and you'll see that quickly.

Definitely a good idea to rent to allow you to get to know the area well.

Expect to find very generic, ticky tack strip malls and bland subdivisions as far as the eye can see.

Riverview covers a pretty vast area, 70K people (and gowning) and about 50 square miles. It's more based on what post office services your home than any official city boundary and their no city government.

I moved here last year. It has it's good and bad as any place. I'm retired but wasn't old enough for a 55+ community, nor is that what I wanted. Community I'm in is really nice. I've enjoyed it here, it's convenient to get to many places. Must be some allure with the area given how many people move in here and development very active. Everyone has an opinion on what they like or don't like, will depend on what your needs, wants and preferences are for a community. Good luck.

What to expect? Really? A lot of rednecks being run off by encroaching tampa suburbs, along with scattered old folk plantations such as Sun City due south on the Tamiami trail (US41). WARNING: best stay out of Wimauma, especially on a Friday night during harvest times, can get a bit touch and go by 11 PM.
