Actually, you are right! Can't tell you how many people have said to us "why?" when we tell them we will be moving to northern Colorado (use to live south of Denver for 5 1/2 years) or up to Wyoming. But, then again, even with the winters there, it's the part of the U.S. we like and miss.

Have come to realize that Florida just isn't for us.

It's not for everyone. But when it gets a hold on you, when it gets in your blood, even with all its warts, it's really hard to leave.

Well, we really haven't missed the winters, but every area has it's good and bad points concerning weather.

There are those in the mountain and plains states that wild love to move to Florida and there are other's that would say "no way". The same ones would say "no way" to moving to So Calif. or New York.

This why there is a constant population shift and also why CA is #1, TX #2 and FL#3 for population increase; though CA's is not due to people moving in from other States as much as foreign residents and the birth rate. More people leave CA than move in from other States. FL has more moving in than leaving. Ditto TX.

From what I understand, and have read on the Denver, CO forum, a LOT of people have moved to Denver and metro area, since we left there in late 2007.

True, that a lot of East Coast and Southern States people have moved to Florida, but there is a certain percentage of people that will take a snowstorm, blizzard and freezing temps over a hurricane, tropical storm and humidity any day. We've sort of got to that point.

I can understand that. It's got so I feel that way every summer now. But then I go and visit family up north during the winter. Aicheewawa, when the backs of your hands feel like sandpaper and you're constantly reaching for the Lubriderm.

Not to mention having to dress like a sausage just to go for a walk.

When we lived in Colorado, we used hand lotion quite a bit on or backs, due to dryness. BUT, when an area, JAX/Florida, doesn't make a person "happy" anymore, location has to change. Don't 100% know if Colorado will be the place, but some away from Florida and the South will be.

People tend to focus on the coasts, but the US has a very large inland sea area. Have you considered one of the Great Lakes states, like Michigan? People from Michigan are more nautical even than New Englanders, IMO. Boating is a large part of life for many there. If you love boating, it might be a good option for you. I know a guy who has a great lifestyle on the lakes. Has a modest residence on land, and then a liveaboard where he cruises the lakes during the summer.

I don't think there is much boating in winter on the great lakes. Don't some of the lakes freeze over and some of the ports close due to weather?
