There are things to like about Perry and things not to like. The major issue to me is the fact that the only large company hiring is Buckeye. I have a Bachelors degree and can't get hired at a paper mill, because they hire mostly family and friends. You can't just go put an app in and get hired. I think there needs to be more industry or other places to work. There is still the "good ole' boy" mentality here. A famous doctor has the money and resources to make Keaton Beach a better place for all and Taylor County along with the EPA are giving him a hard time. We sure could use a golf community that the doctor proposes, and a new marina, along with other proposals which would mean - more jobs. Not to mention how it would help culturally. The children in this town need better opportunities and places to hang out to keep them off of drugs. The worst thing about living in Perry in my opinion is the smell from the paper mill. If you live in Keaton Beach or somewhere else closeby like Steinhatchee, you won't get that odor. For the most part, people are friendly. Too many dogs and cats are allowed to roam free in the city area. There should be a leash law on cats. They keep breeding and are taking over. People should be fined for having so many cats roaming free! It is relatively inexpensive to live here. It is close enough to Tallahassee that you can commute there for work. However, most of those jobs are state government jobs. The state just laid off a bunch of employees, so good luck on that one. There are no good steak restaurants. If you are a member of the Elks club that is the best place to eat in town. Too bad Taylor county doesn't want to allow growth. We could use a good steakhouse like Texas Roadhouse. The town looks old and run down. There needs to be a major renovation project done. Last but not least. One thing that is nice is the new memorial built for those who served in the services.
