When I bought my home, I pulled an Environmental Report from this place: Environmental Data Resources Inc. - Home EDRnet, then I used it to assist in price negotiations, because there is a sink hole less than 1/4 mile form the property. The agent I used here in Fl never offered it to me, I ALWAYS offered reports to all my buyers in Ohio!! LAZY! hahahaha

It is good to have all the ammo and tools you can when you are looking at renting, leasing or purchasing a home.

Oh yes our lovely central florida sink holes.
Citrus, Hernando,Sumpter and Marrion counties and the surrounding area get hit with them a bit.

Most of em are tiny little dips you get in your yard durring the dry season and not much to worry about but you should have the property serveyed and take a little time to learn what's under the bit of ground your living on so you can be prepaired.

The monster ones come when your living directly on top of deep underground water. When that dries up down you go.

There are sinkhole maps all over google and you can check out the South West Florida Management District, there you can get some information
Southwest Florida Water Management District home page

Also check out this report that was done on News Channel 8 News in Tampa. Just do your homework and make sure you are covered for sinkholes as in Pasco and Hernando Counties it is being automatically dropped from anyone with state run Citizens Insurance and I am sure the private market will follow.

If you are planning to buy a house in Florida, make sure you keep sinkhole in your mind. Here is a website I created that gives a quick look of published sinkhole locations on Google map: Florida Sinkholes
Make sure you are not buying near any of these published locations.
