Northeast FL, best place to retire?
Will be moving to Florida to retire in June '07. What is the best place near Jacksonville/palm Coast ? Don't want to spend time cutting grass but enjoying my Corvette and walking on beach.
Is east coast better than west coast?

We're headed toward Amelia Island.
But the northwest side is nice too.

Ameila Island; Check out The Plantation at Amelia Island. It's not cheap, but I think that might be exactly what you are looking for. It's a good mix of condos, townhomes, and single family houses, nestled under large oaks with a beautiful beach within cycling or walking distance. Or, you could live right on the beach. Very nice golf course - part of which is right along the beach. Good mix of retired people, vacationers and families with winter homes. Great kayaking in the marshland, very nice jogging trails as well. Can't beat it.
PS: If you are looking to buy, I'd stay on the beach side, and not the marsh side. I know the homes are newer on the marsh side, and perhaps a little less expensive, but do you want to live on the beach or a marsh? Also, resale is much easier with the beachside condos, townhomes and houses. You get what you pay for.

Did you say "Kayaking in marshlamd"? do you have to worry about those swimming creatures with the big mouths and all that teeth?

My vote would be for St. Augustine Beach. Great small town atmosphere, gorgeous beach, and with the recent price correction, there are some buys to be had.

I think the beaches on the Gulf are nicer.
But the Atlantic side has other things going for it.
