Well, thankfully, Florida is not a Southern State.

Ruebin Askew once said,

"Florida is certainly a Southern State, a progressive Southern State" He went on in this interview to explain his opinion.

"You have a substantial part of Florida that is very, very much a southern state. You have other parts of it that really are more metropolitan, but overall, I would judge Florida as a southern state."

"I think that you have some people all the way down from Pensacola to Key West, you know, in Miami, up to Jacksonville, that are pretty southern. But I believe that the influx of people from the other parts of the nation has had a very good effect upon Florida. The same way that people coming from other parts of the world came to the United States. To a large extent, Florida is a melting pot of the country. And I think that with them they have brought leadership and a more mellowing and tempering of views. And as a result, I think that it is still very much a southern state, but I think that it is a progressive southern state."

I agree with Askew on his point about it remaining a Southern State regardless of the influx of people but I don't know if I agree that its their contribution that makes us a Progressive Southern State.

Actually, I was speaking of this one.
My mother is a multi-generational southerner, she was raised to know this book by heart.

Down here they taught manners a little differently....its called "go cut me a switch" ....then when you brought it back they'd say "do that again and i'll use it on ya." Lots of good switches went to waist but we learned our lesson....wait wasn't Emily Post from New York?

My grandmother was educated, she knew beating children was useless.

Your grandmother was very wise. Hitting a dog is considered to animal abuse, but hitting a child is called parenting. Parents/People who spank their children should go to jail.
