sorry southern spirit....I have to disagree with you on South Florida being a part of Dixie.

The way I've described it is "YOU'VE COME SO FAR SOUTH THAT YOU'RE BACK UP NORTH" and not a single person who knows South Florida has disagreed.

Southern hospitality flew north for the winter and never came back! I wish it was otherwise though

Being from Orlando we have a saying among our friends and family.......
"You gotta go North to get to the South".

I do kinda agree with Ocala northwards being the begining of the South.

You'll find patches of the good ol southern hospitality here and there like Homasassa (the town not the springs) Okeechobee, Crystal River, Creasent City, ect.

When retirement comes, I'll be heading north, yup...to get to the South.

When I lived in Orlando, 11 years ago, there were a lot of southerns, but then I moved to Fort Myers. Never heard a southern drawl again. Might as well have lived in Michigan.

If y'all want to hear some great old time sounds of Florida, the Florida Memory Project has put together a great resource of free audio links to some original Florida folk singers and storytellers. There's plenty to choose from, and I'd highly recommend takin' a listen...

Unhappy Northern, NOT southern.

FL is considered a Northern state in terms of people. It is only located in the south, but it's the North all the way. The real southern people are in GA, AL, MS, KY, TN, NC, SC, and to an extent TX.

Floridians are the minority here. FL people are getting the "rude" reputation, but that is because of people from up north moving here. The primary ofenders are from NY, NJ, CT, MA. The ruddest I usually see in traffic have Mass or New York license plates. Oh, note that a LOT of people from NYC have never driven people (even if sometimes they are over 40 years old), so they come here and need a car, so they get a license, but they drive like they are 16-year old kids.

Floridians are usually wonderful people. They get a bad rap just because of the northern people living here.

NirvanaGuy: You want to see some really rude people, go to southwest Florida. And they are not from the northeast.

BacktoFla: You are right, if they are able to sell their homes, they are now headed my way. Whatever is the cheapest option, right? They may not actually LIKE southerners, but they figure they can change it, like they did Florida.

yup, they think, "where is it cheaper to live?" and there they go. drive prices up and then leave. when nc/tn is over-populated and prices are through the roof, which i'm sure is going to happen, they'll be heading to kentucky or montana or somewhere...

The answer to that question is:

Nope. Florida is a southern part of the United States but not made of Southern people.
Lived her all my life since the age of two (in mid 40's now) and no, I wasn't born here. Born in Philly.
