^^^ Geographically speaking.

And yes, some parts of FL are still southern. Especially the panhandle and other parts of north FL and a little bit in Central FL.

I think Florida is the only Southern state embarrassed by Southern culture. Clinging to the mint julep, seersucker suit, good ol' boy South is not the way forward....

Heck no! Maybe all the newcomers and retired yankees. But the natives of FL wish it were like it used to be. Parts of N FL are still very much a part of Southern culture and they are proud of it!

There's a Southern culture in rural areas but the southern hospitality is unheard of. We get the worst from both worlds, at least the Carolina Southerners are nice.

I also worry that militant conservative teabagging orgs like Glenn Beck's group are going to spend the next 2 years camped out in Florida spreading the same 'ol lies to the seniors like the conservatives have done for 40 years. Will Floridians ever wake up?

Why do you care? Are you going to be hanging out with them? I get a feeling you are just as "militant" as the ones you speak of, just on the other side.

Looks like MATCHPOINT is another yank moving to the south intent on changing it to the Cough Cough """""""""better""""""""".
I'm from rural small town NC and I assure you it's as southern as any place you will find anywhere. If I were to go to Raleigh, Charlotte or areas along the coast like Wilmington, things change quickly due to the transplants. My area and many others like it will not be changing for a long time because for the most part the transplants are not moving there.
I have visited Florida a couple times but am in no way an expert. I would imagine any small town rural area around Orlando northward is southern.Jacksonville and Tallahassee would become more transient just like the cities of NC.
Southern to me is in the blood. If you are from one of the 11 confederate states and your family was from there and your roots from that place go back to at least the 19th century you qualify as a southerner. That's the way I look at it but then again I may be a southern snob.I would imagine many in Florida have those roots and it can be disrespectful to say "they" are not the south. That's my two cents anyway.
