Our plan when hubby retires is to leave Florida for a couple months during the peak hurricane season which also coincides with hottest/humidest weather.

I went away for three months, but left in May.....you have a good idea. Maybe I'll push next summer's trip back to cover hurricane season.

Not with all the drug and gang violence down there.

Even Cancun and playa del Carmen have had issues with tainted alcohol at some of the resorts where guests are being drugged. On the west side, tourists were killed related to the gang violence

Not in Honolulu. I browsed Sunday newspaper and found that except in one or two seedy neighborhoods, no Single Family Home on sale is asking for less than one million dollars in Honolulu.

Hawaii unsurprisingly has the highest per capita homeless rate in the country

I would never relocate to Hawaii. Not even a thought.

I'd get a place in Europe. Portugal, Spain or Italy on the coast. May do that even without the million.

I'd buy a house in Montreal (where I'm originally from) and spend the summers there.
I wouldn't move out of Florida, as I find the winters to be ideal.
