Not trolling. Honest sincere question. What would you do? Imagine if you received a $1 million inheritance. Where would you choose to live? Would you stay in Florida? If not, where would you go?

I'd stay in FL, Tampa Bay. $1 mil isn't a lot of money anymore - and I wouldn't throw it at a huge house (expenses, taxes, insurance). I'd probably take the money and renovate the current home I'm living in to modernize it a bit.

TB has everything I really need - for everything that interests me (music, sports, recreation, scenery).

If not FL, Utah, Colorado, possibly Wyoming.

East coast of central or north fl. Can still find a decent waterfront house with that budget. Good luck finding that along the sw coast or south fl.

I would definitely leave Florida, and the USA. I'd return to Ireland at his point in my life. Something I probably wouldn't consider when I was younger. Now Im sure I would if I had $1M.

Well, depends. Do you have a career and income that's portable? Would your current income support the costs required to own your new dream home and life once the inheritance was spent?

If I started with a modest income when I got the million, I would buy a small house that didn't require high insurance and taxes, set aside some for graduate school (while maintaining employment), and the rest goes into investment. From there I would improve my work skills to build a solid career path, leading to a greater annual income.

The million would be seed money for self-improvement and long-term security.

To many if and's and maybe's unanswered ?? If you and still a working person I might stay were I was as a million dollars can make for retirement investments but not enough to make life easy for a middle age or younger person or couple .


If your nearing retirement age and still like the warm florida weather I would move some were in the norther counties of Levy up to Madison/ Hamilton counties . If colder weather is wanted and depending on what you will do for normal income Western NC is were WE moved to 20 years ago as the custom home market has stayed strong here and cost of living is far lower than coastal florida areas . Home and land cost are lower and schools don't have the problems large market crowded schools and in a rural WNC area life is simply more laid back . The millions dollar is still just an investment to hopefully pass along to your children while you use the profits off of it as needed .


I have older friends that liked to hunt and fish and retired to Dixie county FL and there children are in the surrounding area and life is good for them . There's NO easy answer to your question .
