Police Officer coming from NJ
My boyfriend and I are from New Jersey and interested in moving to Florida. He is a police officer here in New Jersey and is very interested in becoming one down there. We have heard that they have to take a lie detector test. Is this true? Thanks!

This would depend on what agency he's interested in. Has he done any investigating into which agency he wants to work for?

NJ Police officer
He would like to become a street patrolman in any department and is looking into State Police too. He is all qualified, but worried about his past mistakes when he was younger if that would screw him.

I work in this field and he will need to take one but, so long as he puts everything down on his application, there is no problem, can't have done drugs past 2 years is biggest issue, can never have sold drugs, decent driving record is a must too. There is no problem with the lie detector so long as he fully discloses past problems 1st.

He has not done drugs in the past 5 years. He did sell some drugs when he was in highschool, that was 5 years ago or more and he has a great driving record.

most department do polygraph's......a select few do not. As long as he is HONEST with the pre-polygraph survery and answers everything....he will be OK. Honesty is key.

He probably will make alot less in his paycheck in Florida depending on where you go.
Florida jobs do not pay very well and the police officers do not get the salary they deserve down here.

When I worked for the Sarasota Sheriff's Dept. I had to take a polygraph, drug test, fitness test, math/reading test, interview, they talked to all of my neighbors and past employers. I don't know what is required at the state level but that what Sarasota County requires.

my husband is a police officer in NH and we are relocating back to Naples Fl. He is taking his lie detector in a couple days for Naples and had to take one in NH.. I think its pretty standard now for them to take one but depends on what agency.. They are not looking for all the horrible things you do as opposed to ifyou are truthful about the things you HAVE done.. They want to see if you'll tell the truth and admit ..
