I typically don't like Sperlings because their data tends to be outdated, but they just published a new study that is very interesting; ranking areas by their overall "security". Not just crime, but health levels, air quality, and other factors too.

The most secure overall metro in Florida was Naples/Marco Island at 19th place and was also the most secure medium sized metro. The most secure small metro was Punta Gorda at 110th place. The most secure large metro was Ft. Lauderdale at 129th place.

The list ranked all of the US metro areas in order. The lower the worse. I'm honestly surprised to see those places that low because like you said, so many are relocating there. And also like I said, not saying you should trust your life on these studies . Plus you have the military presence...
