For example, I can tell you from experience that New Jersey offers nothing but high taxes in any form, high crime rates (Camden, NJ has the highest crime rate in USA), and miles and miles of pure nothingness, depending on how far into Nothing you are here, lol. I can give you this piece of information, visit New Jersey before you commit to move here. If you spend a weekend here, and you WANT to have a good time, the best and only places to go and have a good time are Atlantic City and Wildwood. I have lived here my entire life, so I have personal experience in the school system, that being said I can warn you that most of the schools around here have high security in them, due to high crime in the schools. They have everything from high alert metal detectors, to K-9 police officers searching the building once or twice a week. And that was 6 years ago!! Imagine how things could be now, in this day and age.

I could go on and on all day, but the bottom line is this, when I go to school in April... I have no intensions in coming back here, EVER. I would rather live with hurricanes, gators, snakes, high degree weather, and tourist populated cities. Rather than live with guns, knives, bad schools, high polution levels, cold weather, and just all around general *******S!!

I hope that my rambling has helped you in some way shape or form. Good luck in the decision!!
What part of New Jersey are you in? I used to live in South Brunswick (Central Jersey) and we did not have metal detectors in my daughter's school. Most of the schools where we lived we Blue Ribbon schools.

I agree.

Also, I wonder where in New Jersey the OP is from?

Sure South Jersey can be rural......... but "nothingness" and Camden, Camden, Camden........

Maybe you should try another area of New Jersey. I have family in Cherry Hill, Mount Holly, Vernon (Sussex county), Marlton, Medford Lakes, ect.

The areas I listed are DEFINATELY NOT "nothingness"..............

New Jersey is a very diverse state, so I'm sure you can find what you are looking for.

If schools are a concern, and your kids will be in PUBLIC school........

NEW JERSEY IS WAY BETTER as far as schools are concerned.

I think your going to be in for a big surprise when you move to Florida. All of NJ isn't as you stated. I grew up there and moved to Florida. You don't realize what you had until you leave. Orlando has a high crime rate. The public schools here in Sarasota have lock downs and kids (2nd grade) brought knives to school. In Florida there is red tide (not like in NJ) you can't breathe and it can last for days. My point is don't be so harsh if you haven't had the experience of living here yet.

You need to reprioritize your fears I think. As someone has already pointed out I am sure, you have a lot more reason to be afraid of your neighbors than an alligator or snake.

NJSouth is on a distinguished road
Living in South Jersey now on 5 acres looking intently at SWFL. NJ has NOTHING going for it outside of salaries. High traffic, high crime, HIGH TAXES, high cancer rates, high insurance. Its beautiful where I am but this state is heading for nothing but trouble. I will miss certain things but nothing I can't take a 2 week vacation for. Definately do your research. North and South Jersey are two different animals. They talk funny up there...LOL

I agree taxes are high in NJ, but people keep voting in the same people. If you want things to change, then you need to vote these people out. Also, schools need to be redistricted up there by county rather than city/township, it would cut down on a lot of the administative costs and redundance.

I have seen pictures of New Jersey on the news and such and they show some really nice houses in a modest area, with beautiful trees and such. The town was really cute and unique. Where would this be in New Jersey? I realize there are bad areas also, but was wondering which area this was.

Florida isn't "heading for trouble"........ it's already in it.

New Jersey may be expensive...... but there are less people in financial trouble there than in Florida.

New Jersey has great beaches and fishing........ So Florida doesn't "own the patten" on those either........

The only thing that Florida has better than New Jersey is warmer winters.....

That is, if you like warmer winters.
