retail chain. They just gave a number of pink slips to employees who had been working for them for years. Those left had their hours cut from a 40 hour week to a 35 hour week. They were told that if they didn't do this, more people would have been fired.

Looking forward to getting out. Oh and if anyone is interested I have a nice farmette for sale in South Jersey!!! 6 acres, twenty miles outside of Philly. PM me!!

You might want to check on that whole car insurance claim........
It USED TO BE more expensive in NJ........
I've lived in BOTH states........
Also, yes, New Jersey has high property taxes but, in many areas- you ACTUALLY GET SOME PROPERTY!!
The houses in Florida (for the most part) are thrown together and are on lots just big enough to fit the house.....
A guy that works for me has a 3 bedroom house (2200 sq ft) on .18 acres in Clearwater that was built in 1954 (tarazzo floors, ect.) and his property taxes are $4100 and his homeowners insurance is $3300........
By the time you add our REDICULOUS homeowners premiums- it pretty much equals out.......
Not to mention the pay down here!!!!..........

Wow. Too bad there are no areas in the entire state of Florida where you can't GET SOME PROPERTY. Oh wait.............. I can give you a list of a dozen places off the top of my head where that's possible.
Guess coming from the dense city part of New Jersey and living in a small apartment in an old building on a street that I couldn't even play out in front of makes me a little less romantic for "Jersey life" --- my grandfather's house was in a family friendly area in New Jersey, but alas, it was in a place that was out of reach financially for a young family such as my parents'....hence why we moved to FLorida for at least a quarter acre lot and bedrooms for everyone!

Not even true. Not everyone in Florida lives in a lifeless subdivision, though people seem to like that since there are so many of them out there. Demand drives function and form, not the other way around.

Hi, are you still living in 2005 or something?
Florida hasn't been this affordable in years. Taxes down, HOI down, and home prices down as well. Taxes of $4100 = a 200k house. You can't get 2200 sq. feet with acreage in New Jersey for 200k. His HOI is way too high as well. Is he on the water or something? I suggest he shop around. My mother's policy in Florida went from 2400/year to 800/year just this month.
A little less time whining about the situation and a little more time doing something proactive would probably help about 80% of the most persistent malcontents and moaners.

I said "in many areas" you get more property- NOT ALL AREAS.
I also said "for the most part" houses are thrown together- NOT ALL HOUSES
I also said "for the most part" the lots are just big enough for the house- NOT ALL THE LOTS ARE THAT SMALL.
I put those phrases in their to avoid this exact response..........
and it still happens?

who are unemployed how affordable Florida is now. Tell that to everybody who is coming down here thinking that too, who DON'T already have a JOB lined up here before they move.
Why do you think Obama came to Ft. Myers, Florida (9.9% unemployment)? Because it is economically one of the worst cities in the country to be in right now.

This was a nice, friendly and intelligent thread. Now it is beginning to turn into that "other" thread (The one about FL vs NYC/LI). At least we're comparing state to state this time.
You cannot compare NJ to FL. They are two different animals. They have different economies and cultures.
