This caught my eye today (and hopefully other motorists' eyes as well):

It seems that a big yellow sign and large, white-striped crossing lanes aren't enough to stop pedestrian accidents. In response, some of the towns of the Gulf Beaches added another, smaller yield sign (maybe white and red is better?) and another sign that instructs pedestrians how to cross the road (Look left and right!); finally a large day-glo orange flag (because it helps deer hunters?) for people to carry with them as well.

Look left and right! And since you're not really visible, grab a flag; wave your arms; dance like M.C. Hammer!
Jump from side-to-side like Vanilla Ice!

In the remaining photos I have added my own, slightly more direct signs that spell it out in plain English.
(** The below are doctored photos **)

Sorry, I forgot:

Maybe a celebrity endorsement?

HOLLY HILL, Fla. -- An Ibis, shot with a 2-foot arrow, sits on a power line and looks down on bird rescuers waiting below hoping to capture the injured bird. After hours waiting and several attempts, the bird eluded capture.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A holiday display is getting some negative attention from neighbors. A homeowner's display in an Orlando subdivision features Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer hanging from a tree. One red light represents its nose and the rest appear to be blood draining from Rudolph's body. The display represents a hunting technique called field dressing, which is what hunters do to a deer they kill, but many neighbors say it disgusts them.

Muggy,

Your post and pictures (love the doctored ones!) have got to be the funniest thing I have seen in a looong time!!! Thanks so much for posting that. In fact, honestly, I get a real kick out of this entire thread. It's very entertaining!

On a side note, I've driven in Florida myself (my father lives in Ft. Myers), and it's amazing how many pedestrians just stepped off the curb without even checking for traffic!!! Luckily, I'm very good at swerving. I understand that they have the right of way, but these people seemed almost suicidal!

Here is an interesting side story (bad):

I stopped at the traffic light on Internation Drive (aka. Tourist-town) and there was an SUV next to me. The light goes green and I slowly start forward when some dumb a** decides to cross. I hit the brakes and stop, no big deal.

The other guy behind me had already began to go forward and slams on my rear and pushes my car forward, pushing the dumb a** tourist forward onto the road and he had this scared look on his face and then RAN!!

This happened a while ago, but after seen these signs, I must add that pedestrians in FL are reckless... some wish to die and let their families sue. I am serious!
