Sarasota has everything. The color of the water and the beaches are amazing! I especially like the keys and if you are on St. Armands or Lido you are very close to the Sarasota Sailing Squadron where you can do all the sailing you want and races/lessons from kids to adults and quite affordable. The schools in Sarasota both private and public are the best in Florida and the city is very arts orientated. The downside is of course price because real estate is expensive but not when you compare to NY/NJ.

I would pick Brickell or just outside of that.

If Miami is on your list, I would pick Key Biscayne over anywhere else in Miami but your budget may hinder you.

I love Coconut Grove, Coral Gables, and Old Cutler but some areas can be hit or miss in CG.

Add Sarasota to your list. The highest rated school in the state, Pineview is there. Check out Lido Shores.

You'll find much more boating on the east coast than west just by the sheer number of people.

Thanks everyone. Lots of good info!

We have been spending summers in Utah that last 5 years and winters in the Caribbean- true about the changing skin condition though lol! When I say Utah I mean Zion- our backyard is basically a national park.

I have been researching everyone's suggestions. Next up is Sarasota. I didn't see anyone mention Jupiter (unless I missed it).....any comments on Jupiter?

Cheers!

I work from home, I was making a bit over $100k at the time, that number has gone up since (Jan 2016). I chose Orlando and would still choose Orlando. I moved from San Francisco.
