Default Question about Tallahassee area . . .

I'm sorry, the link I posted earlier didn't really work.

Does anyone know anything about the area close to the intersection of Woodward and Brevard (ZIP code 32304)? There's some student housing there that is really great price-wise, but I'm curious about how safe it is.

Thanks!

That intersection is very close to campus. There are a few apartment buildings in that area, and I noticed a few new duplexes and small houses. It's probably cheaper than some other options because the neighborhood north of campus looks run-down. It's been a couple of years since I drove through that neighborhood every day on my way to work. I would often see a lot of students walking between campus and that intersection but not many beyond that intersection. If you're a walker, it's probably worth considering. I can't say anything about the condition inside, but the apartment buildings seem typical.

I would avoid that area, it borders on Frenchtown, one of the two worst areas in Tallahassee. There's a lot of student housing on Pensacola and Ocala, which are much safer areas.

Not that safe, unfortunately. Tallahassee overall is a very safe place to live, if you stay out of certain areas. One of those areas is, unfortunately, right around campus and especially the area just north of campus around Woodward and Brevard (aka "Frenchtown").

If you have to be within walking distance of campus, you are probably better off living ON campus. Campus itself is fairly secure and well-patrolled.

Otherwise if you are looking for student housing, check out houses for rent in areas farther north from FSU. Also, many of the apartment complexes farther west of Woodward (the High Road/Tharpe Street area) are not so bad and still pretty close to campus.

Ditto - though there was just a sexual assault the other day at the intersection of Ocala and Tennessee.

Better housing overall (but more expensive) is found north and east of campus, but as the poster above states, safer affordable student housing is available in the areas west of campus, which is almost exclusively students.
