You natives need to warn the newcomers!! I thought a bomb had gone off. AMAZING. 2 booms... According to wiki, the first boom is from the increase in pressure from the nose and the second is from the decrease from the tail.

aint it awesome?????? I live way out in the woods, so you can kind of hear the sonic booms "roll" in. We can also see the shuttle go up from our back paddock. Truly awesome to behold, no matter how many times I see it.

I called the Sheriff, checked on my neighbor... all of that! I thought a transformer blew up, then I thought maybe a tree fell on my roof.

The lady that answered the phone at the Sheriff's office informed me their phone was ringing off the hook. I'm glad I'm not the only one that freaked out.

Next time I'll act cool about it, "Oh yeah, that's just the shuttle. You can come out from underneath the table."

I still remember the first time I heard that sound.
We were living out in Marion county and I think it was the first or second time one of those buggers was comming in and we knew the shuttle was comming watching it on TV and stuff and Booo Boom our walls shook. We weren't expectting that not way out there....
After a while you get use to it but it's fun to have house guests durring one of those events and watch their reaction particularly if you live near big trees and things.

I heard them about 8:30. Shook the house and the dog went and hid. I thought SUR-13 was having community issues via hand grenades.

My friend at work said her whole neighborhood was outside with flashlights LOL.
It was so funny. I guess I should watch the news more often. I knew the shuttle launched recently, but I did not know it was already coming home!

My poor MinPin thought someone was trying to break into the house and started barking. I kept telling her it was the space shuttle but she wasn't buying it....lol.

I'm so jealous! We have tried two times to see the shuttle take off and it was cancelled both times. The last time we tried it was only minutes until it was to take off. In Dec. of 2007 we did see a little of the night launch from the beach here in SC.

Here is a good site for seeing what is going to be launched and when.
Spaceflight Now | Tracking Station | Worldwide launch schedule

LOL LOL so funny I found this post.. My hubby and I just moved here (Well 2 years ago) and neither of us had experienced a sonic boom before. Our shades flew out and everything, I thought we were being bombed and my husband thought there was a gas explosion. When we went outside we saw the neighbors and they informed us.. we felt a little foolish-- but wow. That's pretty amazing. Just another cool factor!
