My in-laws live in Clermont and they love it. It is not as congested as Orlando and the neighborhoods seem clean and safe. They travel about 30 minutes to Orlando which doesn't seem long at all and yet they do not have all the traffic that comes with living near the most popular theme park in the country. Their summers are very hot because they are not near any water, but when hurricanes hit, all they got was rain and wind...no damage whatsoever. Overall, I think Clermont would be a good choice if you are not looking for a coastal area.

We're growing, growing, growing. Lots of new developments; new stores, new restaurants, mostly on SR 50 and US 27. Traffic is getting worse with the growth, but nothing yet like Orlando. Right now the "snowbirds" are here which adds several thousand to our winter population.

We're not as upscale as Winter Park. Ocoee is just down the road, actually that's where the nearest mall is located, although there are rumors we'll be getting a mall soon. Also a theater and a JC Penney store. We have a rather new Walmart and lots of other stores. There are new schools but I've heard some are still crowded. The downtown area seems to be struggling to keep people coming in. They've redone a lot of the area and it's really nice, but stores seem to have a hard time staying open permanently.

I drove to east Orlando today in less than an hour (about 40 miles from my house), but that was after 9 a.m. and of course using all the toll roads. It is pretty crowded during the rush hour(s) from say 6:30 - 8:30 and 4:00 - 6:30 in the evening.

Hope this helps some! BTW, we like the relative quietness and no particular nightlife. You'd have to drive elsewhere I think for that. However, we're probably less than 15 miles from Disney "going the back way" and in some parts of Clermont you can see Disney's fireworks. I can hear them at 10 p.m. but I can't see them.

My SIL lives in Clermont and I have visited once or twice. I was not all that impressed. The development that she lives in has very cookie cutter houses, and she had trouble with her roof leaking after some of the storms a few years back. I did like the rolling hills though!
