A mother in Charleston, S.C., thought she was getting a high-school graduation cake for her home-schooled son who had the honor of graduating “Summa *** Laude,” but to her shock and dismay, the cake she received was censored.

She should have called then to speak to someone once she placed the order to let them know. Just in cause.. that one is on her

From the article:

"When she started typing “Summa *** Laude” into the online ordering system, she says the word “***” was censored. It was then that she left an additional comment in the ordering field explaining what the phrase meant, in hopes of getting what she paid $70 for."

Reading comprehension is on the Publix employee(s) who chose to ignore it.

I would not have taken that cake home. I would ask for the bakery manager, and then store manager if they were useless to have it written in. If it was refused I would have had them reice that area and take summa nad laude off.

I guess you can't buy Dick a cake for his birthday their either.

I usually don't like to make a fuss. But I would not have paid for that cake. I would have explained my case to a manager.

And if Publix decided they still didn't want to write the word (a word used in every high school and university in America), then I would have taken my business elsewhere.

Which is great ahead of time, but when you go pick it up to bring it to a party the same day you don't have the luxury to choose to go somewhere else and have a custom cake made while you wait, but there is no way I would take the cake home as it was and be embarrassed by it and have to explain to older relatives why people are giggling over it. Publix is what turned something that was harmless into something dirty, and then corporations make rules that don't allow employees to use common sense.
