I'm considering a permanent move to either somewhere in southern FL or southern Nevada.

My biggest concern in Florida are the bugs and the potential of a serious mosquito borne viral outbreak in Florida. Florida is prime territory for bugs and mosquitos, this scares me. We saw the Zika outbreak, which seems to be dying off. The solution was constant spraying of insecticides, which concerns me healthwise. I don't like the idea of poison raining from the sky.

How serious do you guys take mosquito born illnesses in FL?

I spray a bug spray I get at Lowe's once a month and the bugs are dead quickly all month. Rarely have a problem.

Can't ans your question, sorry but..

Evenings I spray men's cologne smelling Raid Flying Insect, blue can...Country scent?
in the bushes...walk away...then come back...they go away.

Also, homemade mosquito repellent...they don't get on you at all...you can watch them flying all around your arm...nothing.

Essential oils:
-lemongrass
-basil
-geranium

Hmm---a few drops in coconut oil or shea butter or avocado oil..

We don't use mosquito repellant or try to control flying insects. Biting insects aren't a problem where we live. The county does mosquito spraying in other parts of the county where mosquitos are a problem.

When we lived in Pensacola we used a yard misting system with permethrin based product to control mosquitos.

I think it is prudent to be aware that mosquitos can carry disease and take reasonable steps to protect yourself -- like DEET insect sprays and wearing light colored loose clothing when you'll be outside.

You are right about Florida being very 'buggy'.
