We are looking at buying property in the Davenport area of central FL and was wondering about crime in the area, weather both winter and summer, are there any breezes in summer, how about rains in winter. Is this area bad for gnats, Mosquito or other biting type bugs..

I know about water bugs and such that i can deal with that, it the flying, bitting small and lots of them that i don't like.

the location would be near the Lowes hardware store on hwy 27 area.

The units are more like small MH or Park Models. the community is gated and called West View Ridge Resort. there are several other in the area was are looking at..

so lets have the good, bad, ugly !!

My son lives in a 5 bedroom house in that area. Where he lives it used to be the old Boardwalk and Baseball area. It has been pretty much crime free in that area for the years he has been there. He walks the dog after midnight a lot and the only fear would be a bear, fox, or a coyote in the neighborhood once in a while. That stretch on 27 has about everything you need from groceries, pet stores, doctors, building supplies, fast food etc.

As for weather....rainy season now. Sea breezes meet in central Florida so it rains for a while about every day. Winters are our dry season. Temps will be typical for Florida....Highs in the 90s during summer with feel like up to 110 depending on humidity that day. Winters can get down in 40s over night sometimes but generally in the 70s and more comfortable temps.

It is Florida so you will see bugs.

You could probably get a house for about the same price as a manufactured one in that area. Lots of the shoort term rentals were or are being sold and full timers moving in.

My son's house had more damage from Irma than we did here on the east coast last year so hurricane season is the same as on the coast-usually less destructive unless a tornado caused by the hurricane hits the area.

The one drawback to the area....if you driver I-4 it has gone from a quick 15 minute drive to the Disney area on I-4 to sometimes taking an hour for my son to get home because of accidents and horrible drivers- usually at the exit to Championsgate. Lots of cars taking to the exit lane or the grass to get around slow or stopped traffic lanes so a dangerous drive.

good info for sure..

more looking at 55+ communities and more of a winter type deal. Will be full time RVing and this would be place to stay a month or so or more during winter, here or out west in Southern Arizona, etc. this way the place will be easier to keep eye on with neighbors and a couple units we are looking at are gated communities as well. One place is right beside the Lowes home improvement store on hwy 27 so that would be nice.. might be able to get good winter job at lowes to help the "kitty" as it were.

We Follow some folks on a blog that full time and have place in Adelaide Shores RV Resort in Avon Park, fl. They travel from mid march till nov and bought there place last year after staying there winters for a couple years. There were doing the amazon warehouse christmas rush in KY for a couple years. Now she works at home depot adn he at lowes during busy season.

I hear you about the I-4 debacle around Championsgate and Celebration area i understand as well. Guess that is why you have back roads in the area.
