Hi. I live in Connecticut and want to move to Florida. I've been applying to jobs in my field that I'm qualified for, though I'm having no luck even getting an interview anywhere. I think my CT address is turning off employers. I do state in my resume and cover letter that I can relocate without assistance. Unfortunately I don't have the savings to do that kind of move without a job lined up. Thanks for any suggestions.

It depends on what your field is. If you are in IT you shouldn't find any barriers to working in Florida. if you are an educator I would warn you moving here my ruin your career. What field are you in?

There are literally tens of thousands of people who would like to relocate to Florida ... as well as thousands in Florida immediately available for interviews and work. In fact, there are approximately 350K people moving to Florida each year. A few possibilities you might consider:

- Look for companies in your area that may have opportunities in Florida
- Select a specific time when you will be in the area and ask for an interview then.
- Work through local head-hunters.
- Compile a video resume
- Focus on what you uniquely bring to the table; Avoid "me too" presentations, resumes, etc.
- Recognize that large percentage of jobs are not advertised; Go after those
- Work personal networks - not strictly HR 'cattle calls'
- Arrange a local address (perhaps a friend); and phone number - (cell phone from area); P.O.Box
- Advise a specific date by which you will be available to start work in Florida
- Does your current employer have an opportunity in Florida? -- Can you create one? (I successfully did this years ago by compiling a story based on Florida market demographics)

List a local address. Pick one from Zillow. They're not going to snail-mail you anything via USPS so how would they know? If they inquire state "I am renting this home/condo/etc. short-term from a friend while I job search. "
