I've posted multiple topics on this before, but this time it's not a hypothetical.

Without getting too deep, my father has finally passed after a 2 year battle with abdominal cancer.

In this time I've saved money because I was at home 24/7 taking care of him.

I am from Pennsylvania and have loved this area in the past but as of the past 10 years, have been LEVELED by seasonal affective disorder.

I've tried all the stuff that you're told to combat it. Vitamin D, sun lamps, ect.

I need a break from the grief, the sadness, the cold, the stress, from all of it (I am 26 now).

Is it worth moving down to Florida for a short time? Just for the winter?

Throughout this awful battle, it's made me realize how LITTLE I value material things, so moving should not be an issue. When I move back in the summer I will most likely decide as to which state I'll choose to stay (Seeing as how I cannot afford a home in both states).

Is there anything I should know? I'm young and self employed - is it too risk or should I just do it?

Do it.
Or you'll spend the rest of your life wondering what if.

Just do it as others have stated. Three to four months of misery EVERY year is no way to live if it's at all avoidable, and if financially able there's no reason not to.

Great weather in the Winter months, hardly any skeeters and just a great time of the Season to be here in the Sunshine State. I live here 12 months a yr every year, since 1973, and I love ALL Seasons, Northerners hardly ever get used to the Heat of Summer, so it's better to venture here in the cooler months.

"Snowbird season" is upon us. Millions (?) of Northerners will soon arrive in Florida where they will remain until about March. It's a symbiotic relationship between Florida and its snowbirds.

If you are coming down for twelve months, you will likely get a better rental rate than if you only staying for the season.
