So I've decided to take a few friends with me on a road trip to Mayo, FL up in Lafayette County, mainly to say that we've been to a town called Mayo. My question: is there anything to really do in Mayo? I find it hard to imagine that there's really much going on but is there anything in the surrounding area?

Hello,
I don't know what you can do in Mayo but it is absolutely beautiful there. Make sure along the way you get to see the Santa Fe river. I am from Florida but have been in Virginia for many years. Can't wait to get back. North Central Florida is beautiful. |

Check out the springs along the suwannee. Unfortunately the water is high but when it is down Troy Springs, nearby, is beautiful.
Great photos of area springs on this link: Google Image Result for http://www.floridasprings.com/Images/troyspring_sm.jpg |

Well, I spent a great part of my younger years there. My father developed some land out by the river and that is where I spent my years swimming, riding my horses, and picking wild blackberries. I do not know how much has changed since the late 70's early 80's, but I can't imagine that much has. I loved the small town atmosphere as a child and knowing everyone. The local vet, was always there when you needed him. Other than the nearby springs, horseback riding and nature walks there was not much else going on. We did have an old skating rink with wood floors. Probably gone by now. LOL we also had some property on the Santa Fe and the scenery is well worth the trip. I hope you have a great time.

Mayo is a nice little town, nothin to do though in the town itself. Check out the Suwannee River between Mayo and Branford. Good fishing sometimes near the US 27 bridge.
