Wasn't there like a mass shooting at Jacksonville Landing a few short years ago?

There was a mass shooting at the Madden video game tournament August 2018. 2 people died and 10 were shot by an idiot because he had lost a game. He killed himself.

I agree, too. I was in Tampa with visitors just a couple of days ago. There is not much in Ybor City: a few nice buildings but most of it still looks run down.

That was last year in the summer (?), I believe. It was not related to the usual crime in Jax, though. Actually, the Landing was a place downtown that offered a nice spot for outdoor events/concerts etc. The view from there over the St. John's river and the lighted bridges (at night) was very nice. Other than that there is not much happening downtown. Downtown Jax has some office workers during the week and is basically dead otherwise.

Ybor is nice in that it's unique, retains its old city charm, is highly walkable, has some nice bars/lounges and so on.

Aside from that, Tampa DOES have a few good spots, including Channelside. Downtown could use a revamp, sure, as I find it to be strangely dead for a city of its size. But let's not forget St-Pete on the other side of the bay -- easily the best "downtown" there is in Florida.
