I've planned a trip to the East Coast starting 07 July 2010 till 22 July 2010.
I arrive in Miami and depart from Philadelphia.
I would like to stay a couple of days in Miami, then visit the Everglades. Hop to Orlando for Disney and Universal. Leave Florida via St-Augustine.
Is this a good way to visit Florida or what else is there to see.
Are there items that I should certainly see in the ereas already mentioned?
What about reservations for hotels or park tickets in general?
Any advise is welcome.

I would say that you missed the west coast and that's a definite must see. Try adding Siesta Key Beach on your list. I think you'll be glad you did. I think Babcock Wilderness Adventures is more exciting than the Everglades.

Good luck with your trip!

I think the Kennedy Space Center is a must see.

The west coast was scheduled for this year but due to the crisis we won't get that far but certainly in the future.

If you live in Belgium , you are my neighbour (North France) and I guess you are not used to the Florida summer, so if you want to visit, don't go there in July-August, because the only thing you will want is to take a dip in a pool or in the sea (which can be nice of course) and stay close to an aircon device. If I were you, I would rather visit Miami the Everglades and Orlando in April-May, less hot.

Be prepared to sweat like you never have before. Florida in the summer is hell on Earth.

SoFLGal meant the West Coast of Florida....we get so used to saying that here we forget that everywhere else the West Coast means California, Oregon and Washington. The West Coast of Florida is not that far from the Easy Coast (about a three hour drive from one coast to the other).

What sort of things are you most interested in? That might help us make suggestions.

A previous poster mentioned Kennedy Space Center....that's a great suggestion. I would also consider Key West and St. Augustine. ut there again, with my preferences I would skip Miami.

Don't go out at night in the Everglades, you will be carried away by mosquitos. I personally have never been to the everglades even thought I lived in FL for 25+ years. I have been in the swamp and out in the boondocks. Once the lights go out (especially if it"s been raining a lot) the mosquitos attack. Make sure to get some bug spray. There is also an Indian Village near the Everglades off of Alligator Alley. I can't remember their tribe name? I'm sure someone can help me out here.
When you visit Disney and Universal bring a spray bottle to help cool down. If you buy it in the park they will charge you an arm and a leg. They also have a water park, a must in the summer months.
There is the Reptile Museum right as you are entering Kissimmee on Road 192. As far as I know it's still there. Gator Land is pretty neat too.

Default Thanks for the musquito and heat advise

Unfortunately my kids still have to go to school so the only period that we can travel is in July or August. The most expensive, most crowded and hottest time of the year.
Since I'm arriving in MIAMI I would like to stay a couple of days to adapt to the different time zone and the temperature. What is there to see here?
I would like to go to Key Largo to see the dolphins. From there on I'm still reading this forum.
Is the Indian reservation and the cypress preserve worth a detour?
If I'm getting it wright there are other places besides the Everglades to see aligators?
In Belgium we hear alot about Daytona Beach but is there to see?
St-Augustine is on my list when leaving Florida. It's the oldest city with the oldest school in the US.
