Where we used to live, in another state, neighborhoods would bring food and pies to the home of a new buyer. The train of food and visits was never ending. There used to be rotating house parties and luncheons at different houses also.

We noticed this didn't happen when we bought a home in Florida. And there are no neighborhood cookouts. And drivers never wave to each other down here. People keep to themselves.

Is something different in Florida? What are we missing?

My area of Florida is friendly, people wave, bring food/flowers if you've been in the hospital, bought a new house, had a death in the family. We are friendly to our neighbors so maybe they reciprocate?

I guess Orlando is not the same. So sad, how cold Orlandoans can be.

I lived in Orlando from 1994-2001, in 2 houses and 1 apartment, it was friendly then. Sad that it changed.

AAX, do you wave to your neighbors? When is the last time you took a gift to a neighbor?

Florida is a transient place; a lot of times people hold off a bit on really getting to know the neighbors until they feel like you're going to stick around a while.

Well, down here when you're driving, if you wave at someone, they may think you're trying to start something and they may shoot you.
So best to keep your eyes on the road your hands upon the wheel.

I mean... Doesn't this go for pretty much anywhere you drive?

Also, why would you wave at random people when driving? I understand if they're neighbors or something, but just waving at people as you pass them on the highway?

Could be just you development. Not encountered anything like that in ours. They bring food to new parents, block parties for holidays, luminaries for Christmas etc.

Orlando is not a small town in the Deep South, where at least the waving thing is common.
