PENSACOLA : Please help.
I am moving to the Pensacola area and looking at several houses on East Blount Street. Can someone please tell me if this is a good area? What are the school systems? I have talked with realtors but they are there to sell the house and nieghborhood, so I would like some thoughts from a non bias group.
Thanks

East Hill
The house you're looking at is in East Hill and, quite frankly, probably the only area of Pensacola I would consider living. Not sure about the schools but if you're looking for an elementary school, check out N.B. Cook. It's a magnet school located on Twelfth Avenue. For specific school information, you should check out GreatSchools.net.

The school system in Pensacola is not so good. I think that there are a few elementary schools that are good. NB Cook just closed it applications for next year... If my daughter doesn't get in there It will be private school, home school, or move sooner than planned.
If Pace is an option I would look there. The school system is much better!

I agree, or maybe the far west end of hwy 90 towards the Beulah area. Blount St is a little too close to Cervantes St for my taste.

The East Hill area you are looking at could be a mixed bag. The East Hill area in general is a wonderful place,(my best friend lives there) but there are varying degrees of gentrification going on in the immediate area. You may find an extensively renovated 100 year old home right next door to a totally rundown 25 year old home. I would highly suggest you get a home inspection on any property you plan to make an offer of purchase on. The N.B.Cook school is good, and so is the Montessori.....but they are hard to get into. There are numerous parks and it is close enough to downtown, the malls and the beach to satisfy most anyone. You do need to realize that you will be in the city limits and therefore pay higher taxes, so take that into account also.
