Here's a nice link to chamber of commerce website showing a bit of what Lakeland has to offer:
Take a Look at Lakeland
We really love it here. The new Lakeside Village open-air mall looks like something out of a ritzy coastal town - it's always hoppin' with people going to the beautiful art-deco style Cobb cinema, or eating at some of the great restaurants there. Here is a link to Lakeside Village website:

Lakeland does have plenty of chain and fast food restaurants, but it also has plenty of ethnic and mom-and-pop eateries. Lots of things and places to do and see here. The abundance of lakes here almost give you the feeling you are in a coastal town, the lakes in town also keep it cooler.
All in all, a very nice place to live, great quality of life.

It's good to see that Lakeland has been improving with its growth. I only left Lakeland because I was homesick for family up north. But like I said in a previous post, I wouldn't mind going back if the right opportunity presented itself. I miss going to Gainesville and Tampa for football games.
Just a funny stroll down memory lane here: I remember there was this elderly gentleman who use to walk down the busy streets in Lakeland wearing only his boxers or some really skimpy shorts lol. I mean it would be over 90 degrees out and here he'd come walking down the middle of downtown wearing only boxer shorts

Lakeland is better than Winter Haven .. there is much more to do ... They have a new outdoor mall now... called Lakeside Village... really nice.. lots more restaurants too.
They did finish the construction on I-4 and widening of 98N.. as with any city you have good areas and bad... If you do go into a subdivision.. make sure they have an active Homeowners Association.. they help to keep the neighborhood from going down hill.
Lakeland is close to everything... You can work here, Tampa or Orlando...

I'm in Winter Haven and..
I think Winter Haven is very nice, but I would rather live in Lakeland. They have more trees! I especially love the neighborhoods south of the Polk Parkway, lots of trees and nice houses. I think you'll find a nice home to rent in that area. Kaci

Every town has low income housing and crime. Lakeland is a wonderful place to live.
I moved here 3 yrs ago from Tampa, The cost of living is so much lower here. Apts rent
alot cheaper than other areas of Florida. Lakeland is getting new residents from all over
Florida, and USA.

My husband is looking to transfer to this area. We know nothing about it except it is close to Disney. My parents moved to Brooksville 3 years ago so we think this would be great to have th ekids still be abel to visit with them. Could anyone tell me a good web site besides the Chamber Of commerce that I could get info , pics. any great info to convince us that this is where we want to go.
Any help or idea would be greatly appriciated.
