Hi again, So looking for a small town feel in Ocala is a stretch?? Can anyone tell me where is the best part of Ocala. I would like to be fairly close to the horse Ranches. Established communities, friendly neighbors.

On our way out of Florida, we drove by Ocala. I thought, "Now this is nice. This sure doesn't look like south west Florida."

I think that area and further north is "The South." Beautiful.

I think Orlando and south was run into the ground.

The snowbirds do become part of the community here. Michigan and Ontario are the most common license plates. I guess it's just so mellow here that only laid back type people seek out this type of place. They just want to warm up a bit, but it's not going to be Miami temperatures or atmosphere and they don't expect it.
It's not exactly a steamy paradise for club kids at Port St Joe.
We had the same went WinnDixie was the only game in town, now we have 3 supermarkets and local folks have taken their choices. Many refuse to go to WinnDixie, most visitors like how Publix takes care of customers. The Super WalMart will open in mid Jan 07, will see how the locals and snowbirds accomodate with 2 WalMarts within 25 miles, Brunos (30 miles), WinnDixie, Publix ( both in the heart of town) and Piggly Wiggly (about 20 miles).

Here in NJ the people are terrible... IMO there down right nasty...
I was hoping everyone would stop fleeing NJ/NY and going to Florida....

I was hoping to move down to Florida and get away from these people already....

That's what I thought, too.

So I moved to Tennessee, and they followed me here, too.

It's actually funny, because where my mom lives (Port Saint Lucie), it was originally attracted a large population of people from the Northeast (NY, NJ, PA especially), and now THEY'RE all complaining about how "South Florida" is moving in and changing the place (the general consensus is that it's not for the good, either).

Northerners hating other Northerners?

Northerners hating other Northerners....

It's because of the fast pace out of control rat race up here...

People are downright nasty... And will stop at nothing to get ahead....

People who aren't cut out for this lifestyle just don't like it or the mentality...

And they don't like it spreading to places they've moved to... I can't blame them at all....

Maybe your right... Maybe your wrong....

But I do have friends and relatives that moved to Florida and would never even think of moving back up here.... And they've been there a long time... I guess some people like it... Some people don't...
