The feeling im getting is they think we are ruining their state? Do Floridians really hate us?

There are some Northerners that I don't care for; some that I am great friends with.

I will try to define for you which "Northern" traits I don't much care for that I have personally encountered:

1. Union Journeymen or tradesmen that come down here trying to shove their union propaganda down our throats, and who can't shut up about their northern unions.

2. Northern sarcasm - can't stand it, and I have no problem telling northern acquaintences that they need to shed the sarcasm and that it is seen as rude and completely obnoxious by southerners, or non-northerners.

3. Northern Liberals who want to ban firearms, change our laws regarding marriage, hate people who hunt, are anti-religion, won't eat meat, coddle their children and refuse to discipline them when needed.

Now, having said that, I have some close, long-time friends who came from Road Island, New York, Iowa (yes, that's "north" to us), and Connecticut. It's not so much where you come from, but how you act that matters.

There is a stereotypical northerner, usually a tourist who can be very annoying. In general I doubt anyone who is nice would find themselves mistreated because of where they are from. I said stereotypical but it really is true. You can spot them a mile away and they sure can live up to their reputations. It's hard to sometimes not say something like, "Why don't you go back where you came from".

I can't speak for everyone but I don't "hate" northerners per say, but there are some that think that when they come down here they rule the roads, stores, beaches,restaurants, etc. Most Floridians I know Love northerners because that is a big part of our economy. They should however remember they are visitors and should be respectful to our state just like you would be respectful when you stay in someone's home as a guest. Besides my parents taught me never to "hate" anyone.

You are the stereotypical northerner I referred to in my post. Maybe you can find someone who can show you the difference between Florida and Alabama. This forum is about Florida, not the back woods somewhere, you need to educate yourself on this part of the country. You also took the subject matter of this thread and twisted to provide you some forum for your own agenda. I am sorry, you have to go back where you came from till you learn some manners.

wal I got me som real good book learn'in at da collage in da north. my sister and me got hiched and she pushed out a young'in. we gots lots of dollors cause we sold some land to a real good feller for a nuf so we don't hav to work no more. but if you need a job the out house needs some cleanin. got to go the goats got in the maders agin.

Being from Upstate, I would say that the stereotypical view of a "northerner" doesn't hold in the rural areas. I would argue that the Liberal, "yuppie" view only holds in the cities, and in many cases doesn't even apply to many suburbs within that municipality. From my personal experience, I've noticed that alot of people in certain western cities have a more elitish liberal mentality than people in many northern states.

I read through MannieCole's posts, too. Geesh. He/she's sounds a lot like the transplants in Fort Myers. They hate their surroundings wherever they go and are really clueless.

Singing the praises of Detroit? I have a lot of new friends from Detroit. They are so glad to be out of there. People are escaping in droves.

He/she's going to CT? Good luck. If he can actually afford it, he cops that attitude and they will put him in his place, quick.
