I recently moved from Jupiter to St. Augustine. A smaller city, very close to the ocean. School system was rated number 4 in the state last year. About 30 miles south of Jacksonville where there are lots of job opportunities. As a Jew, I found it a bit frustrating (as in many areas of Florida, especially north) as the Jewish community is not as large or active as in south Florida. Although Jacksonville does have a fairly active one. If you want further info, email me at sahoffice@bellsouth.net. Btw, I am originally from NYC and have lived in Florida since 1976.

Default Hi BC

Great to hear from You 'BC'

I appreciate your time and comments, Thanks !

I was initially interested in Brevard Cty, Melbourne, Viera and maybe the beach, barrier islands area... Melbourne Beach, Satellite, Indian Harbour.

But now looking at Vero beach as well

I will see Valkaria, Grant and Micco as well... when I drive through.

Thanks for the feedback about lil 1/2 acre lots...
I have no interest to see my nieghbor through my window and visa versa... and Yes some land costs.. I am familair with that concept... just joking 'BC'.

I am seeking a 4 bedroom house around $300-$400K
Is that price range doable ?

Thanks again and comment alllll you want thanks.

Feel free to write me directly

The other reason I am suggesting Vero is that you are looking for some SPACE. MUCH of the other areas, especially newer housing... are built in the subdivisions where people are closer. Just take a look at a google map. Most everything is 1/4 acre lots. It will be a little more difficult to find that peaceful 1 acre you talk about... and be prepared to pay for it too.... in addition to a house. So for space I would suggest Vero or Sebastian.

On the other hand, there is always places like Grant-Valkaria or Micco. Small RURAL communities south of Melbourne/Palm Bay and north of Sebastian. Some of the homes there are on larger lots. Not much in the way of amenities, but close enough to Melbourne/Palm Bay or Sebastian/Vero for shopping.

OH, and mowing the lawn every 2 weeks... NOT in summer... it WILL be WEEKLY !!! It rains much and it grows FAST.

Default Hi again F-15

Thanks as always F-15 for the feedback !

Yes Viera sounds nice.... and might be 'it'.

I am hearing about St Augustine,,, any comments ?

Yes there is a trade off... I am seeking land over beach proximity anytime.
We can easily drive, bike to the beach when ever we wish,, but live in the house with the land we want each day... so land over beach proximity anytime.

Wondering in Viera, Vero beach would $300-$400K for a house get us what we want.. as well as property tax, insurance etc.

More home work to do

Michael

Viera is a VERY good fit for us,but it's all in what you want and what you're content with. All you can do is check it out in person and decide for yourself where it would be a good fit for you. Like I said, Best Of Luck!

My parents live in Sebastian and I lived in Vero for about 15 years until 2004 when I met my wife and we had to leave due to the fact she is in the military and we move around alot.

But I tell you the first day the wife gets out of the military we're heading back to Vero Beach !!! We can't wait to get back !!

Michael another thing I'd suggest is not to go any further south than Vero Beach. Ft.Pierce is the pits. Most south Floridians are heading up to the Treasure Coast to escape South Florida.

BTW congrats on the arrival of you baby, I to am expecting our second child due June 4 via C-section. Good luck with your search.

Yes,Michael.......you can get a VERY nice home for that amount, but not on an acre of land. You are doing the right thing to rent for a year to make sure where you want to be.

I forgot to comment on St. Augustine. We also looked there and we have stayed there several times on trips. It is a very nice place to visit, but not as nice to live as the other places you are interested in. That is just my opinion though. Like I said before, you have to check it out for yourself because everyone and their needs and wants are different.

We vacation in the Sebastian area and it has a lot to offer, including great schools.
The benefit of a pool in Florida is that you can use it all year long, although they are risky if you have a little one.

Default Hi again F-15

After reading more about St Augustine,,,, here on blogs,,, I am thinking it is not exactly for us,, seems too touristy and such.... so staying away from there now.

For a house I think I mentioned,,, we are seeking $300-$400K range. But I guess that range will not get us an acre.. but hey... I can easily live with less... but not the lil 1/4 acre ones that are butt up against your neighboor. I would live further inland to get more land.. Everything is a trade off

Wondering if I can get 1/2 acre East of 95 or I have to go West ?

Default Hi CD

Yes one can use the pool almost all year round.
But as I wrote previously... I have had that pool.. and a nice one,,, concrete inground 45x20 rectangle.. but less and less was it used,,, as we did not even open it anymore,, rather went to the town pool.

So wondering if a pool is really needed ?
Would it be an escape from the heat ?
Cool shower does it as well

And as you hit it on the head,, with a lil one coming,,, the risk factor is tremendous.

I hear way too many stories of leaving a child for a few seconds and the child gets past the door, past the gate and into the pool.

That concerns me BIG time and scares me.

As I said,,, I had the pool and took care of it myself.. opening it and closing it and repairs.. so I can handle it easily... just wondering even without children is it needed ?
