It looks like there are several prisons at the same location, The State prison, New River Correction instituten, Union Correctional insitute, and Lawtey correctional institute. Not having any personal experience with anything there, I guess I always thought it was one. It is in Raiford. I believe they call it Starke, as Raiford is so small. Less than 200 people whereas Starke is close to 6000. Makes it easier to find on the map. To get to it, you take Raiford road (16) out of Starke to Raiford. About 11 miles. The mailing address for all 4 prisons is
7819 N.W. 228th Street
Raiford, Florida 32026

I think you need to double check the location of the prisons.I live in Middleburg. There are good area's and very bad area's.Clay County is not very good about keep up with what little zoning laws they have in some area's.Stark is a nice area.Yea its a speed trap so is Waldo.Just don't speed simple.Just check the area out first.Don't move in were there are farm animals. That means there is no zoning. And people live like animals in these area's.

True, plenty of bad areas out that way......the prisons are located there for a reason .

I live in Starke. I would not recommend it. We've been here for 3 1/2 years and are looking forward to getting out this summer.

Default Prison not in Starke

The prisons are not in starke, they just call it starke cause its right on the county line, much closer to raiford.
If you like calm country areas, there is nothing wrong with Starke.
It is growing big time.
Keystone is a retirement community.
There are people there from all over really, nobody cares where your from, just how you conduct your self.
Country folk tend to not like those that think they are better because they come from the city.

Drive through Starke all the time, nothing there worth recommending. Definitely a speed trap as well as Waldo, down the road from Starke off of US 301. If you live in FLA, might as live somewhere nicer - near the beach, near bigger cities, etc.

It is a redneck trailer trash town. There are no well paying jobs unless you are part of the good old boy group that scams the state and taxpayers out of money. The people there are scum and uneducated and racist.

You would do better if you lived in Middleburg.

Union Correctional Instituion is in the tiny town of Raiford, which is in Union County. The New River seperates it from Florida State Prison as well as forms the county line between Union and Bradford Counties. Florida State Prison, while not in the city limits of Starke, is often referred to being there. It is actually in unincorporated Bradford County, and yes, executions do take place there. Starke is in Bradford County and has just about every fast food, hotel, and convenience store chain that any other small town on a major highway, in this case U. S. 301, has.

I would describe Starke as definitely a small Southern town. It is a passing through town for many, as 301 links Jacksonville with the Tampa Bay area and Southwest Florida. I do pass through often myself. The downtown area has a historic district (Call Street) and county historical museum.

As was posted earlier, Starke itself is not a speed trap, but towns north and south of it can be. I say just do the speed limit or a few miles below it and you won't have a problem.

It's interesting to google earth this area, you can clearly see the long shadows the guard towers cast and the prison softball fields. You can even make out what appears to be an airstrip, a lot of high profile maximum security inmates are brought in on small prop planes. UCI and FSP are a stones throw from each other and New River East is across the street.

One thing for sure don't pick up the hitch hikers in that area.
