Best Places to Live in Gainesville
I'm going to be starting grad school at UF in the summer and I'm looking to find out what the best apartments and condo/house rentals are (studio or 1BD) and the best areas to live in are.
I'm looking for someplace that's safe, quiet and preferably on the UF shuttle route or Gainesville city bus route at the least. Thanks you for input in advance!

Stay in the West part of town... most of Gville is connected by the RTS (which is fairly efficient considering the state of FL's horrendous public transportation). Zip 32608 is a good place to start looking.

You can find nice places between the East side of campus all the they west to 75. If you go on the west side of 75 you'll find more families in that area.
The bus system is pretty good even if you are a little further away.

I recommend areas on the west side of campus.
This looks like a place I am looking for, except in a different city.
Also you may want to check out the housing ads for Gainesville at craigslist.

Can anyone recommend what's the best place to live in the city/surrounding area if you're not a student?

Ignore my first post. What I meant is the West side of 75 is good for families. Also north of campus gets pretty nice around Millhopper.

Sounds good...A wealth of info people. Thanks! I am starting school there, but am 30...So, done the party thing. I live in Key West, don't really want to look at beer the first couple of days I get there! Are the housing around the college all filled with loud partiers, or are there rules?
I am thinking I may like living off the campus route a bit, what are your thoughts? I like to have fun, but well, I have grown up a bit now! I still love the energy of the younger 20's crowd, but still, would need a nice quiet place to study and disconnect from the school life and work.
Which side of town do you think is best for me? (Not to detract from the original post, thanks for your help!)

NO Dinero
I have been told by people-several as a matter of fact, that jobs in Gainesville are not abundant. I didn't get in to UFL, and now I am thinking will I be able to work there? People have told me people with scholarships had to leave cause of job availability...
I am having to rethink Gainesville...

They are not easy to find at all unless you are in the medical field.
