Haai is on a distinguished road
Red face Have you been stung by fire ants yet?

I have. I accidentally stepped on a mound and the ants literally poured out of the ground and got on my foot. I can't describe how painful it was; it felt like someone was puncturing my foot with hot needles (cringes at the thought).

Certainly learned my lesson that day, and I found out what fire ant mounds are like the hard way. Either way, I don't think these guys will attack you unless you give 'em a reason to.

Yes, have had the pleasure?? of getting stung by a few ants, hurts, itches like crazy. Knew someone who got really sick from being stung too many times and required a trip to the hospital. Just another day in good ole Florida watch where you walk.

I saw someone nearly go into cardiac arrest after being stung. I always carry Benadryl in the event of encountering them out on the course.

I used to work as a landscape designer & there's nothing like carrying a plant in each hand (in a plastic nursery pot that they've made a nest in) & not realizing your hands are covered in ants 'til that "signal" some ant gives to all bite at the same time happens!!

One time that happened to me & I got bit under a ring I've worn for years. My finger swelled so bad it started turning blackish-purple & I had to run to a jeweler to cut it off!!

Not a fun time!!!

It was a blast to have those things attack my 2 yr old & watch his ankles swell up. As long as he didn't walk in the grass or along edges, he was fine. Always easy to do that for toddlers love to stand still on cement

Another reason southern areas of this country do not impress me.

When we were stationed in Fort Benning, GA, it is actually an offense to destroy their homes on certain parts of the terrain on that post. My dh & I have been bitten by them numerous times.

They are nasty little buggers.

I very rarely get bit by more than one at a time, but I pay very close attention. My DH has been "attacked" a couple of times and we have found that two things really work well for bites immediately after they happen. #1, if you have a pool handy & it is heavily chlorinated, get whatever part of your body is affected in there! Luckily for my DH it's typically the ankle. #2, WD40. Weird, I know, but true. I keep a can under his bathroom sink for such emergencies. It also clears up the shower door very nicely...
