Cape Coral, Florida, ranked No. 1 dangerous city, with four bike fatalities between 2014 and 2017.

Four Bike Fatalities, wow almost overwhelming... and San Bernardino, California; Dayton, Ohio; and Pompano Beach, Florida, rounded out the top five most dangerous cities for cyclists.

Florida summers are epic and enjoyable! It's aesthetically pleasing going across the land, and looking across the deep green tropical vegetation. All punctuated with epic thunderstorms and tropical rains, providing loads of excitement while quenching and refreshing the land.

That being said, it can be quite difficult to enjoy beach and pool with the frequent rain activity. One good compromise would be monsoonal India. That subcontinent also gets loads if Jun-Sept rainfall like Florida, but they also have a super heated dry period during the spring months (especially April and May) that affords good, uninterrupted pool and/or beach time. Unlike Florida, some of these places average 100°F temps for highs during that April and May period! Definitely guarantees sufficiently warm water temps.

I lived in FL for about 7 years after moving there from TX and I will say one thing about heat. I don't like to spend much time in very cool (< 80F) places after being out in the heat because I have gotten flu symptoms the next day really bad. It shocks my system to experience that much of a temp change.

We live near an Atlantic beach (800'), so the ocean breeze really helps. Our back porch has a roof, but is open to the breeze. I work durning the day, starting early and quit by 4 pm. Late afternoons are for sitting on the beach and taking a swim.

We do yard work early or late in the day. We rarely need to go to inland, if we do need to go (ie Lowes) we go early or late in the day. AC keeps our house cool.

If you compare the summer temperatures in my zip 32176 with places like Washington DC or St. Louis you might be surprised that we aren't any hotter.

May to September are absolutely horrific in Florida for the heat intolerant and the best things to do to survive it are A, stay on top of maintenance with your AC, and/or B, live elsewhere during those months. When it's in the 80s by 8 a.m. and still 88-90 by 10 p.m. with oppressive humidity, there is zero relief other than staying indoors.

It is a myth that everyone has the ability to get used to the Florida heat. Many people do, many people (even natives) do not.

There is a reason why so many people flee Florida in May and don't come back until October. There is a reason why most outdoor events in Florida are held between October and April. There is a reason why it's cheaper to fly to or stay in a hotel in Florida in summer. Because Florida's horrific summer is extremely undesirable for most people.

Even President Trump knows to get out of Mar-a-Lago by end of April. He'll be heading back to NY until fall.
