My guess would be we probably all exposed ourselves sooner...and we're all getting over it sooner

well and DeSantis targeting the most vulnerable for vaccinations......

"States including Texas and Florida, which have completely reopened, are reporting fewer coronavirus cases than Michigan, Pennsylvania and New York, which have COVID-19 restrictions and mask mandates in place, according CDC data. "

Yes, lets celebrate covid case counts running between 5-7K per day! Brilliance! Also Michigan is essentially fully open at this point because the Republicans that control the legislature there there are trying to kill as many people as possible in the name of 'freedom'

Not sure if it's a factor, but Florida (at least in our area) we had the same tourist traffic in 2020, as in 2018 and 2019. I mention this because the spring-breakers and other tourists seem to believe like the Florida beach and sunshine cancels out COVID!

Even if tourists contract COVID during their 2-3 week stay, it's more likely their numbers will be counted in their home state when they return, instead of Florida. Meanwhile, we (Destin) are seeing a heavy impact on restaurant workers. Virtually all 200 restaurants (est) in Destin are hiring and paying around $15, yet, struggling to find workers. Some even offer bonuses if people will sign-on for at least a month, but it doesn't seem to help.

(A tangental factor in the service sector, is that many service workers can make more money from unemployment plus stimulus payments, than from working full-time). ... another example of our government shooting itself in the foot.

The foreign college kids that prop up Destin most summers by being willing to work for $10/hour still can't get back into the country for any reason, much less get their short term work visas. In normal times, half the lifeguards at the water park are Brazilian nationals, the Destin Publix bagger is Romanian, the restaurant waitress is a Czech college student spending the summer working on her English because it helps her get a better job after graduation....

And the high school kids form more affluent families down here have never been much for part time jobs. Retail also pays better these days- lots of folks find working at Whole Foods/Target/Publix less stressfuf than restaurant work.

the word "cases" means almost nothing....
...that depends on how many people were tested

the percent positive of new cases matters...and that's been bouncing around 6%

What has happened is the median age has dropped way down to about 35...
..35 year olds have a death rate of about 2%...with all the usual caveats that go with that

http://ww11.doh.state.fl.us/comm/_pa...rts_latest.pdf

and that has been reflecting in the covid death rate for the state....yes, there's a lag in reporting deaths

Is it crazier to think that some of the more in-your-face, Desantis walks on water posters are actually on his payroll in some way or that no one in his organization posts on C-D? It would be foolish of a politician to ignore a free, high-trafficked medium like this. The recent flood of praising threads has me suspicious.

Not when they have 8700 posts and have been a member for quite awhile. It shouldn’t be that difficult to realize DeSantis is actually quite popular.

Isn't it clear yet that the mass hysteria and excessive restrictions never worked at all?
If states that were open and closed have pretty much the same rates overall (with many open states faring better btw), why are we still pretending any of the lockdowns or masking worked? Why are they STILL pushing these measures?
Thankfully here in Florida we have a common sense leader that made decisions based on actual health and economical data, over fear mongering media drivel.
Can't imagine living in an other state through all this. I truly hope he runs for president.
